Taking care of mama

I mentioned in my last post that I needed to focus on myself a little to reinstate my self confidence in order to help me be the best wife and mommy possible. This isn’t crisis mode here people so don’t freak out…it’s just me needing a little pampering so I can be myself among the many other hats that I am wearing: employee, mommy, wife, housekeeper, cook, etc.
So here’s a little peek at some selfishness I have indulged in this week…
Haircut and color

This alone has probably upped my mood the most….just a little different but enough to be fun. I love this hairstyle. This cut helps my hair to look very full. I LOVE my hair dresser...she is a friend and great at what she does. Thanks Lori for your expertise! I always just do my color on my own, way cheaper that way! This is John’s favorite color on my right now so that’s what I did.
New purse

I used to change my purse constantly, however after mommy hood and constantly carrying: diapers, wipes, bottles, sippy cups and snacks, changing my purse to something cute has been low on the list. Well I indulged and bought a new purse this week. Do you like??
New shoes

I love shoes…my favorite accessory. Judging by my closet and the spare room closet and the basket in my room you would be able to quickly see that I could be considered a collectorJ. Heels aren’t too practical these days, but I have recently fallen back in love with wedges. I swiped these cute shoes at Payless on clearance…bonus!
I am planning on a pedi on Saturday and then my indulgences will cease. It’s the small things that make a world of difference. Every once in a while all women need to be pampered and reminded of their womanhood. Sometimes it’s hard to juggle all that life demands but I would not change one thing about my life right now. My children are healthy and beautiful and my husband is amazingly supportive, loving and pretty easy on the eyes J Life is good, some days are hard but every day is a blessing!

My favorite favorite verse:

Don’t worry about anything, instead pray about everything.

Tell God what you need and thank Him for all that He has done.

Have you treated yourself lately???

Random

So...today I have a million things running around in my head...nothing earth shattering just different things from every aspect of my life right now.

My husband is in the process of considering a huge job change. I can't go into very much detail but the decision is hard. I completely support him either way...I just pray that whichever way he chooses he is confident in his decision and we have no regrets.

It is becoming more and more difficult for me to spend the days away from my children. I don't know if I could be a stay at home mommy but I do know that only having a few hours with my babies at the end of the evening is hard. My kids are just so fun :) I want to spend more time with them.

I want to be a really good mommy. I want to be the kind of mom that when my kids look back at their childhood they remember all of the fun things that we did together and they can feel the closeness that our family lives in. I can not believe how quickly my babies are growing...I would literally stop time at this very moment if I could.

I do not think that I am being the best me that I can be. It is my personality to focus on everyone else and not take time out for Lennie. I am going to start working on this. I need to be a fulfilled woman in order to be a great wife and mommy.

These are just my ramblings for the day...hope I haven't scared anyone away. What is on your heart today? You can tell me...I am here to listen!

Birthday Preview

Our sweet baby girl is going to turn one is a few weeks and I have big plans for her party.

First off I can not believe my baby girl is already one. I seriously feel like I was just pregnant. Johnie is the sweetest, calmest, most easy going girl I have ever known. She is such an amazing blessing and I am so proud to be her mommy. Miss Johnie Girl you are a beauty and I can not wait to see who you grow into...but for know can you slow it down a little so I can soak up this sweet baby you are for a little while longer?!

The birthday theme is going to be "Johnie's Sweet Shoppe." We are going to serve lots of goodies....cupcakes, cookies, cheesecake, truffles, etc. We are even going to have an ice cream bar. It will be very girly...you can bet on that.

Here's some party inspiration...

I have taken some pics for the invitations also...here's a sneak peak...

I love you Johnie Girl!

Before & After

I recently redid my dining room so I wanted to share. Here is the post of my dream dining room . And here are some pics of what I actually ended up with.

Dream Curtains:

Dream China Cabinet:

Actual "China Cabinet":

I made this "china cabinet" which isn't a china cabinet at all, out of two pieces that I already had in my house. They both got a fresh coat of paint and stacked on top of each other to make a new piece to enjoy. I still dream of having a big antique china cabinet in my dining room some day but for now this gives me the same effect without costing any money at all!

Dream Table:

Actual Table:

I haven't done anything to the table. I just haven't quite decided how to do the makeover and with my tastes changing so often I know that I do not want to paint the table again. So for now a large lace tablecloth gives the appearance of a white table once again with out costing me any money.

Dream Paint:

Actual Paint:

The top photo is a picture I bought at an antique shop several months ago for $10. I love it and the dining room has become it's new home. The second pic is a frame that I got at a garage sale earlier this summer for $2. I bought a Katie Daisy print to frame in there. I had to put a piece of scrapbook paper behind the print because the frame is an odd size. Looks pretty good to me.

An Extra:

My mom made these pillows out of old handkerchiefs...LOVE!!!!

My mom and I painted this bench to match the piece on the other side of the room. I really like how they both match and form a cohesive color scheme in the room. I think that is why I can put up with table not matching because there are matching pieces on both sides of the room.

Here's a before of the bench:

I love the room....I still want to change the flooring and the table. I really try to redecorate at a very minimal cost so I will have to take my time with these last two items.

Before:

Total cost of the room makeover:
Curtains - $80.00
Paint - $30.00
Katie Daisy Print - $22.00
The rest of the items I already had and just moved around from other spaces in our home.

Grand Total - $132.00!!!! Not too shabby!

Have you changed any of the rooms in your home around lately??? You should try it!
